The Bennett Scale - a partial archive

These mini-chapters can be read in any order. I have tried to keep them as compact as possible, but the central three pages are inevitably a little densely packed with information. A good way to read them is with the Excel spreadsheet also open at the matching page, if screen space permits.

And, of course, the whole archive is available for anyone to explore (and maybe recount) in their own ways.

The readership here is likely to be those who have a flute by one or other of the makers (old or now) covered in the archive. However, it is my hope that these pages may also be useful for anyone looking to embark on their own journey as a flute maker – much as I did, briefly, many years ago and as my friend Andrew Oxley (see the Definitives chapter), to whom I was introduced in my third year at the RCM, did not only much longer and better, but is in so many ways still doing.

The final page, Memories, is entirely personal, my modest tribute to Wibb as a person. I will be pleased if you read it once; there will be absolutely no need to read it a second time.
